Patacón Cevichero Costa Rican Restaurant

Overview

Located in the heart of Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica, Patacón Cevichero is a hidden gem that offers an unforgettable dining experience for both locals and visitors. Nestled in the picturesque town of Quebrada Ganado, this vibrant restaurant brings together the best of local cuisine with a laid-back atmosphere perfect for savoring fresh, coastal dishes. The restaurant has quickly become a favorite among food enthusiasts, especially those craving a refreshing twist on traditional Costa Rican flavors.

One of the standout dishes at Patacón Cevichero is the eponymous patacón, a dish made from crispy fried plantains, which are expertly layered with various toppings such as fresh ceviche, marinated seafood, and zesty salsas. The combination of crispy, tender plantains with the tangy, flavorful ceviche creates a delightful balance of textures and tastes that keeps diners coming back for more. This dish is a true reflection of the culinary culture of Costa Rica, offering a fusion of indigenous ingredients with influences from both the ocean and the land.

What sets Patacón Cevichero apart from other local eateries is the authenticity of its dishes. The restaurant’s ceviche is prepared with the freshest fish and seafood available, ensuring each bite bursts with the natural flavors of the sea. Whether you prefer shrimp, tilapia, or the catch of the day, the ceviche is always prepared with care, marinated in a delicate combination of lime, cilantro, and garlic. It’s the kind of dish that feels like a taste of Costa Rica’s coastal charm, with every bite transporting you closer to the crystal-clear waters and sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean.

The menu at Patacón Cevichero is as diverse as it is delicious. From grilled fish to hearty rice dishes, there’s something to satisfy every palate. For those who prefer a lighter meal, the grilled octopus with a side of fresh salad or the seafood tacos are excellent options. The tacos are filled with perfectly grilled fish, drizzled with tangy salsa, and served on soft, warm tortillas that melt in your mouth. For those seeking a heartier option, the grilled fish platter, served with rice and a side of crispy plantains, is a must-try.

The cozy and inviting ambiance at Patacón Cevichero adds to the overall experience. Whether you’re sitting on the open-air terrace or inside, the relaxed vibe makes it a perfect spot for a casual meal with friends or a romantic dinner. The decor reflects the beachy, laid-back lifestyle of Costa Rica, with simple wooden tables, soft lighting, and a warm atmosphere that welcomes you like family. The friendly staff ensures that you feel right at home, providing exceptional service and recommendations based on your preferences.

For those who enjoy pairing their meals with a refreshing beverage, Patacón Cevichero offers a wide selection of local Costa Rican beers, cocktails, and fresh juices. The fresh fruit smoothies, made with local tropical fruits like mango, pineapple, and papaya, are a great way to complement any meal. For a true taste of Costa Rica, try the "Guaro Sour," a local twist on the classic whiskey sour, made with Guaro, the country’s traditional sugarcane liquor.

Located just a short drive from the bustling port town of Puntarenas, Patacón Cevichero provides a welcome escape from the usual tourist crowds. The restaurant is known not only for its delicious food but also for its commitment to supporting local farmers and fishermen. Many of the ingredients used in their dishes are sourced from nearby farms and fisheries, ensuring that every meal is both fresh and sustainable.

Whether you're in the mood for a light snack, a hearty meal, or a refreshing drink by the sea, Patacón Cevichero offers something for everyone. Its combination of authentic flavors, fresh ingredients, and a relaxed atmosphere makes it an ideal spot for anyone looking to experience the true taste of Costa Rican cuisine.

The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is colorful and lite just right. The dishes are so fresh and the portions large. You have to stop if your in the area. The Aztec soup was so good its hard to put into words.

While driving to Punta Leona, we noticed this small seafood restaurant, tucked into a mini mall. So glad we did, our waiter Ronald, made us feel at home, made some great food suggestions and even offered us a cheese cake that we didn't have to pay for, if we didnt like it. Needless to say, it got devoured along with an amazing cup of coffee. The seafood rice and ceviche shrimp plates came with the thinnest, crispiest patacones I've ever had. This spot is well worth the stop along the Costañera route 34. Buen Provecho !
